Federal agents patrol the Frogtown neighborhood while anti-ICE activists warn the community about their presence and oppose ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement detentions, part of heightened tensions following a federal immigration enforcement surge and recent shooting involving an ICE officer in St. Paul, Minnesota, on January 16, 2026. US President Donald Trump said Friday there was no immediate need to invoke the Insurrection Act over protests against immigration raids in Minnesota, a day after threatening to use the law. Trump had threatened the drastic measure that would have allowed him to deploy the military to the northern state for law enforcement purposes in response to protests against broad-reaching immigration raids spearheaded by his administration. One person was shot by federal officers in Minneapolis, Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) said on Jan. 24.

“I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning,” Walz wrote in an X post on Saturday morning. We had a problem loading this article. Please enable javascript or use a different browser. If the issue persists, please visit our help center.
