Faith in Minnesota, a group of religious activists, claimed Friday that over 100 religious leaders were arrested during an anti-ICE protest at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The group, which is an organization “calling for racial and economic justice in Minnesota,” was part of a protest demanding airlines take a stand against federal immigration enforcement.
Faith in Minnesota said over 2,000 deportation flights have gone through the Minneapolis airport and that airport workers have been detained by ICE while on the job or commuting, according to Fox News.
“In -20° weather, over 100 clergy and faith leaders were arrested at MSP Airport as they gathered in peaceful, prayerful resistance to demand airlines—especially Delta and Signature Aviation—stand with Minnesotans and say #ICEOutOfMN,” the organization said. “This must end.”
The airport and law enforcement have not confirmed the number of arrests so far, but the airport said the protesters got a permit to hold the protest at the airport and security began arresting them when they went beyond the scope of the permit.
The protest occurred on the same day as the “ICE Out of Minnesota: A Day of Truth and Freedom,” event, which features a march in downtown Minneapolis as a protest against federal immigration operations.
