Pope Leo XIV is considering President Trump’s invitation to join the Board of Peace, according to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s top diplomatic official.”The Pope has received an invitation, and we are considering what to do,” Parolin said Wednesday, Naccording to Newsmax. “I believe it will be something that requires a bit of time for consideration before giving a response.”
The board’s initial aim is to end the war in Gaza, but Trump has said it will have a much broader remit and resolve conflicts around the world.
While several countries, such as Israel and Egypt, have accepted the invitation to join the board, some others have declined, with diplomats warning it could take over the work of the United Nations.
The pope rarely joins international boards. However, the Vatican has an extensive diplomatic service and is a permanent observer at the UN, often taking part in debates.
