Border Czar Tom Homan is set to meet with President Donald Trump on Friday to discuss invoking the Insurrection Act to crack down on anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) demonstrators in Minneapolis, Minn.The city has become a hotspot for immigration enforcement in the wake of viral reporting highlighting the scale of alleged public fraud linked to the Somali expat community in the area. Demonstrators have clashed with law enforcement in multiple instances, including a high-profile episode that saw the death of demonstrator Renee Good.
Homan told Fox News on Thursday evening that he planned to discuss the matter with Trump.
“It’s certainly an option, a viable option,” he said. “Actually, I’ll be meeting with the president tomorrow. So, I think it’s something that needs to be on the table because this cannot continue.
His remarks follow Trump publicly stating that he would invoke the act and send the military to Minneapolis if state officials failed to crack down on anti-ICE operators. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has also confirmed speaking with Trump about invoking the act.
