FBI Director Kash Patel said Thursday night that one person has been arrested in Minneapolis for allegedly breaking into a federal vehicle and stealing government property. The announcement comes just hours after Patel and the bureau offered rewards of up to $100,000 for information leading to arrests and the recovery of the stolen property, after several government vehicles were broken into.
The crimes occurred Wednesday night while FBI personnel were responding to an assault on a federal immigration official, who was allegedly ambushed and beaten by three illegal migrants.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the arrest of a member of the Latin Kings gang, which was made in cooperation with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm agents. The suspect allegedly stole FBI body armor and weaponry, she said on X.
“This criminal is a perfect example of what our brave federal law enforcement agents are up against every day as Minnesota leadership encourages lawbreaking,” Bondi said. “Thank you to our agents for their outstanding police work.”
Patel said the suspect has a “violent criminal history,” but the identity of the alleged gang member was not released.
“There will be more arrests,” Patel warned. “Again: any individual who attacks law enforcement or vandalizes federal property paid for by hardworking taxpayers will be found and arrested.”
The bureau is still seeking photos, video or “other digital footage” of vandalism and theft of the remaining vehicles. People with information on the crimes can call the bureau at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip online at http://tips.fbi.gov.
