President Trump called Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., about capping credit card interest rates and housing affordability, according to the senator and White House. On Monday, during her speech at the National Press Club, Warren said she emphasized that if the president “really wants to get something done, including capping credit card interest rates or lowering housing costs, he would use his leverage and pick up the phone,” POLITICO reported.
“After my speech, the President called me, and I delivered this same message on affordability to him directly,” Warren said in a statement. “I told him that Congress can pass legislation to cap credit card rates if he will actually fight for it.”
On Friday, Trump posted on Truth Social, calling for a one-year cap of 10% for credit card interest rates, starting Jan. 20.
“President Trump and Sen. Warren had a productive call about credit card interest rates and housing affordability for the American people,” a White House official told POLITICO.
Warren also said she urged Trump to pressure House Republicans to pass the Senate’s bipartisan legislation aimed at addressing housing costs. He had previously given his nod of approval to the housing package.
