President Donald Trump announced Monday that countries doing business with Iran will face a 25% tariff “on any and all business being done with the United States of America.””Effective immediately, any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a Tariff of 25% on any and all business being done with the United States of America,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
The new tariff comes after the president said Sunday that the U.S. military is considering “strong options” on Iran and that he is being updated hourly on the protests that have engulfed the Middle Eastern country.
Protests against Iran’s leadership have continued for weeks, resulting in approximately 538 people dying and 10,600 others being detained, according to the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency. The exact numbers are difficult to determine because the internet and phone lines in Iran are cut off.
