Trump touts crime crackdown in closing midterm arguments

President Donald Trump on Monday delivered his closing argument for the midterm elections from the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall.Voters are set to head to the polls on Tuesday to decide control of the House and Senate. The in-power party typically loses ground in midterms, but Trump hopes to buck historical trends and retain control of both chambers.
During his speech, Trump touted his administration’s success in bringing down crime in major American cities, most notably in Washington, D.C., and Memphis, Tenn.
Speaking to the D.C. police, he quipped that “[o]nce you had a little leadership, it was pretty easy, wasn’t it?”
He also recalled his efforts to reduce crime in major cities like New Orleans. Trump specifically touted his willingness to remove the most violent criminals from the streets, saying “2% create 91% of the crime.”
Trump made the remarks at the edge of the Reflecting Pool, one of the many monuments he has renovated since returning to the White House. In the capital alone, Trump has revamped several iconic monuments, including by guilding the equestrian statues near the Lincoln Memorial, restoring the fountains outside Union Station and Meridian Hill Park. 
He has also constructed a ballroom at the White House, along with a helicopter pad, and rebuilt the Rose Garden to include a patio.
Other major administration figures, including Interior Secretary Doug Burgum spoke to highlight their successes. Burgum specifically pointed to the construction of a memorial for those who participated in the Iraq War.
“I don’t anybody who cares more about our veterans than President Trump,” he said.
