Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., on Friday called on Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign in the wake of a fatal shooting in Minneapolis, Minn., involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.”Kristi Noem should resign — before more Americans are killed.
She needs to be held to account,” Newsom’s press office said in a statement on social media.
The remarks followed Noem’s defense of an ICE agent who shot Renee Good earlier this week. Video footage from multiple camera angles appeared to show Good hit an agent with her car after blocking the road and facing arrest.
The DHS and President Donald Trump have defended the agent’s conduct as self-defense.
