House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, House Committee on Administration Chairman Bryan Steil, R-WI, and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer, R-KY, on Monday demanded that WilmerHale partner Ronald Machen sit for a transcribed interview to answer questions about alleged misconduct by Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue.Machen previously provided the committees with a briefing to corroborate testimony from ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones and later authored a “white paper” on the subject. But the trio of House Republicans stated in their letter to Machen that his statements appear to contradict records in their possession.
“Your review appears to be nothing more than an after-the-fact sugarcoating of ActBlue’s misconduct and Ms. Wallace-Jones’s misrepresentations to the House Administration Committee,” they wrote.
The letter went on to outline the points of Machen’s letters that they say contradict information the committees have uncovered in their investigations. ActBlue stands accused of illegally accepting foreign donations and has denied wrongdoing.
The trio then asked Machen to schedule an interview by Oct. 12.
