GOP official in California apologizes for election fraud claims that turned out to be untrue

John Turnacliff, the chairman of the Marin County Republicans, apologized last week for claims he made about dead people voting in the county last year. Turnacliff alleged in February that dozens of dead people voted on Proposition 50, a 2025 redistricting measure, and he asked the county’s registrar to investigate, SFGATE reported. 
During an open comment period during a county meeting last week, Turnacliff admitted that no election fraud had been found. 
“I’m here today to retract that statement that I made a few months ago as far as those voters being on the roll. I did not find them. I apologize to the Board of Supervisors, to the registrar’s office and to the registrar for any angst and consternation that could have put on you since then,” Turnacliff said. 
Natalie Adona, the county’s registrar of voters, told SFGATE in February that the law didn’t require her to investigate Turnacliff’s allegations, but she decided to conduct the review in order to maintain trust in the community.
