France and Canada have followed the United Kingdom in announcing a ban on goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, who spoke to the House of Commons on Tuesday. Miliband said the UK would take action against specific companies and individuals providing services that contribute to settlement expansion, including construction, infrastructure, financing, and real estate. He stated that the UK will “act in concert with others in a broad international coalition” [1].

France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed the move in a social media post, stating, “France will end trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian Territories, along with 11 other countries that have made similar commitments.” Barrot added, “France cannot, through its trade, support a situation that threatens the security of both Israelis and Palestinians” [1]. The announcement follows a joint statement from a group of 11 countries condemning the Israeli government’s actions in the occupied West Bank [2].
