President Donald Trump signed a New Year’s Eve proclamation Wednesday that postpones his increased tariffs on kitchen cabinets, upholstered furniture and vanities for one year amid ongoing trade talks.A White House fact sheet on the proclamation said the United States is having productive talks with other countries on “trade reciprocity and national security concerns with respect to imports of wood products.”
The proclamation said the increased tariffs were expected to go into effect on Thursday, but will now be delayed until next year. The 25% tariffs on kitchen cabinets, upholstered furniture and vanities that are already in place will remain.
The tariffs, which were announced in September, would have increased to 30% on upholstered furniture and 50% on kitchen cabinets and vanities.
