The Department of Justice has now opened an investigation into Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) for alleged campaign finance violations, according to several reports that are making their way around social media. A “source familiar with the probe” spoke with Axios, revealing that the investigation into the Arizona Democrat is the result of a “whistleblower complaint” from Southern California.
The news outlet then said that the probe into Gallego “comes after the Senate Ethics Committee closed its inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations.” The report then noted, “The Justice Department’s probe comes after the Senate Ethics Committee closed its inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations after finding no evidence that Gallego violated Senate rules or applicable law, according to a letter released by his office Monday.”
