President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet Monday in Florida in an effort to advance a U.S.-brokered truce this past fall in the war between Israel and Palestinian-backed Hamas in Gaza. Netanyahu is also expected to make the case for new action against Iran while at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, a White House official told NBC News. Israel declared war on Hamas after the terror group’s deadly Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
The meeting comes one day after Trump hosted Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an attempt to end his country’s war with Russia.
While the Israel-Hamas truce has largely held, there has been little movement on the more complex, second phase of the peace process. In Trump’s United Nations-backed 20-point peace plan unveiled last month, Israeli forces withdraw from Gaza and Hamas gives up its weapons.
