President Donald trump on Tuesday quipped that he would like to run for president again, despite the fact that he would not be eligible.Throughout his second term, Trump has repeatedly suggested he may seek a third time, albeit usually in a joking context. During an appearance in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Trump asked the crowd if he should run again.
“May we should run again. Should we run one more time?” he asked the crowd, which responded with cheers.
“I’d like to do that. I’d like to do it,” he said.
Presidents are limited to two terms in office, or a maximum of 10 years, under the current constitutional limits set forth in the 22nd Amendment.
Theoretically, a vice president can succeed a president two years into a term and still seek two full terms, though no president has done so since the amendment’s ratification in 1951.
