Senate Majority Leader John Thune declined to declare the fight over Monday after the Justice Department said it would comply with a federal court order freezing President Trump’s $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund.” Instead, Thune told reporters that Republican senators remained unsatisfied, and when asked whether he trusted the administration’s word, he offered a four-word reply that left little room for interpretation.
“Oh yeah, don’t you?” Thune said, his sarcasm landing squarely on the gap between what the Justice Department promised and what Senate Republicans actually believe.
